Lanvin is the earliest establish French fashion brand. The brand gained fame in France and inspired the others with idea of fashion. However, after the death of the founder, Jeanne Lanvin, the brand could no longer be as well reputed as before. Before takeover by Alber Elbaz, the brand was as if stuck in hazy road, losing its direction. Being the artistic director, Elbaz brought a revolution to the brand, becoming an important leader in the decade. Therefore, my color analysis started from fall 2002 when was the time that Elbaz took over the brand.
Analyzing the color charts from fall 2002 to 2009, I found out that color such as beige, red, midnightblue and black were the usual choices. Moreover, black and beige were picked by the brand every year. Therefore, I believe that the brand will stick to these two colors in the future seasons.
Apart from the above, I spot that red is the favorite warm color of Elbaz. Except the fall of 2008, it was the prior choice of him in the other seven seasons.
In term of cool color, blue is a frequent choice. It is not only due to its wearability, but also about a historical reason. Elbaz had followed the convention of the brand, combining his ideas with the “Lanvin Blue” which was introduced by Jeanne Lanvin after she was inspired by the colorful windows paintings of church. Hence, firebrick and midnightblue are possible to appear in the fall 2010.
Darkmagenta and darkgrey are also possible colors. Although purple was not picked in fall 08 and 09, it was the usual choices in spring/summer collection. Also, it was chosen as one of the theme colors in the advertisement. Therefore, it is possible to appear in future. On the other hand, echoing to the economic downturn of this year, all pieces in the collection of fall 2009 were black and grey. Therefore, grey will possibly be the main theme color of the fall 2010. However, I suggest that magenta will also show up to refresh the grey atmosphere.
